History of Building 36
Building 36 was a metal stamping facility for General Electric (GE) until the closure of the Fort Wayne plant in 2015. Ancora invested $300 million to revitalize the campus as Electric Works and return to its legacy of innovation, inspiring growth and revitalization in the region. Indiana Tech purchased Building 36 in March 2025 with the help of Lilly Endowment Inc, who provided a $21 million grant to assist with the startup of Junction 36.

Future of Building 36
Building 36at Electric Works will be a center for HardTech and advanced manufacturing innovation that helps grow local companies by connecting them to university-led research, development, and training. It will provide training related to Industry 4.0, business assistance for small-to-large organizations, spaces for business innovation teams and startups, and a variety of event spaces to host community and innovation gatherings as part of the curation of the innovation ecosystem at Electric Works and throughout Northeast Indiana.
